Dr. Mustapha Shayegan is a graduate of Tehran University School of Medicine. Dr. Shayegan fulfilled his medical-surgical internship at Bergan Pines Hospital in Paramus, N.J. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. Subsequently, Dr. Shayegan advanced his training at Hahnemann University, earning an oculoplastic surgery fellowship. Dr. Shayegan remained at Hahnemann University where he became Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology; closely supervising and teaching the residents in their ophthalmology training and surgical techniques.
Board certified in ophthalmology, Dr Shayegan is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. His areas of expertise include cataract and intraocular lens surgery, reconstructive and cosmetic eye plastic surgery, glaucoma and diabetic management, and external diseases of the eye.
Dr. Shayegan and his wife, Shohreh, have lived in the Philadelphia area nearly 30 years, where they have raised their son. Dr. Shayegan is an avid artistic woodworker, winning national awards for his intricate designs in marquetry, many of which are on display at Eye Surgical-Medical Associates offices. In addition, he is an accomplished concert musician, performing his setar in music departments of various colleges and universities in the tri-state area.
